The Brain, The Emotions and Relationship

This is a piece on understanding emotions and emotional triggers in relationships.                               It draws on research on the brain and the emotional operating systems we all have.

When these emotional systems are set off without our understanding of what is happening,           relationship difficulties are almost inevitable.  Listen and learn about what these systems are              and what we need to do to manage them and our relationships.

The Mind Beneath the Brain

In this talk I explore the phenomena of changing our programing.
The idea is that we all have a brain and a mind.  The brain is made
up of circuits and connections and activation systems.  Though immensly
complex, the brain is still quite mechanical, it does what it is programmed
to do.

The mind is us, it's who we are it's what we experience.  When we learn that
we can change some of our programming and the connections we've "burned"
into our brains, then we have the possibility to change how we react to and experience
many of the things in our lives.

Emotions, What Are They Really:  A Broad View

We all understand what it is to feel feelings.                                                                                     It makes up an integral part of our every moment experience.                                                         But emotions have another function.  They evolved with us from the most distant of times.

They originally served not sentiment, but mobilization for                                                         survival. They were how a creature "turned on" it's energy states                                                        to achieve what it could not when at rest and to survive.

Emotions connect us to an ancient legacy.  Appreciating just what is moving                                    within us when we "feel" may help us to manage our emotions and to                                     appreciate them for what they are and what they can be.
